"Taste of North Little Rock"

The North Little Rock Visitors Bureau will host the April 15 ASAE Luncheon Meeting," Taste of North Little Rock" at the Art Scene building at the corners of Maple & Broadway, next to the Wyndham. (There are a few parking spaces in the front but most of the parking spaces are to the back side of the building.) At 11:45 Mayor Patrick Hays will welcome us then President Boccarossa will introduce the North Little Rock legislators in attendance.  After a few ASAE agenda items, you'll be invited to taste the menu samples of some of the new restaurants in North Little Rock and visit with other attraction and venue representatives including:

New Education Director at the Arkansas Forestry Association

The Arkansas Forestry Association Education Foundation has recently hired a new Director of Forestry Education,  Rob Beadel, who began his duties in February. Rob received a Bachelor of Science degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Biology from Arkansas Tech University (ATU) in 1995. His work experience has included stints in ATU's Biology Department, Arkansas Game & Fish Commission fish hatcheries and the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service. He is currently employed as an ecologist in the Water Division of the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality. Rob is a trained facilitator for Project WET and Project WILD and he is certified in PLT. He is the President-elect of the Arkansas Environmental Education Association, of which AFAEF is a member and supporter. He has also been through a facilitator training course and is proficient and skilled in numerous computer programs.

American Associations Day 2008 on Capitol Hill April 8-9, 2008

American Associations Day 2008 will begin April 8th at 12 PM.  The evening of April 8th will feature an exclusive reception with the ASAE Board and invited members of Congress.  The next day, April 9th, will be your chance to visit your state Congressional delegation to speak on issues such as the value of associations to society, health care for staff and members, and communications with business partners, among other issues. To help with your travel costs for this event, ASAE is offering $300 travel scholarships to be reimbursed to you directly after the meeting. Arkansas Sheriffs'Youth Ranches to Honor Congressman, Mike Ross

Congressman Mike Ross will be honored by the Arkansas Sheriffs' Youth Ranches April 5 at a fund-raiser benefiting the DeGray Lake Campus. Tickets for the dinner on April 5 at 6:00 p.m. at the El Dorado Golf & Country Club are $ 150 each, table of ten for $ 1500. STANDARD MILEAGE RATES FOR INCOME TAX PURPOSES

The Commissioner of Revenue does hereby issue the following regulation: 
     The optional standard mileage rate, for use by employees or self-employed individuals in computing the income tax deductible costs of operating passenger automobiles owned by them for business purposes, is fifty and one-half cents (50.5?) per mile for expenses paid or incurred during the 2008 calendar year.
     The optional mileage rate for use by individuals in computing the income tax deductible costs of operating passenger automobiles owned by them for a charitable organization is fourteen cents (14) per mile.
     The optional standard mileage rate allowed in computing the cost of operating a passenger automobile where transportation expenses are deductible as a medical or moving expense is nineteen cents (19) per mile for expenses paid or incurred during the 2008 calendar year.
     The standard mileage rate for business use of a vehicle by a rural mail carrier as set by the Internal Revenue Service for tax year 2008 is hereby adopted.  Reimbursement for a carrier's mileage shall be treated as a payment from a qualified plan.  As  such, mileage reimbursement will be excluded from a carrier's gross income.  However, a carrier will not be allowed to deduct vehicle-related expenses incurred while working as a rural mail carrier.
   The mileage rates stated above shall be in effect for tax years beginning on and after January 1, 2008.

Northwest Arkansas Naturals to play baseball in Springdale
Texas League Baseball Comes to Springdale in 2008! ASAE Members in Springdale anxiously await the opening day of baseball season this year. Class AA Minor League baseball will make its home in Springdale beginning in 2008 when the Northwest Arkansas Naturals move into their new $50 million stadium on the city's west side.
